Big March Announcement #3: VIIK

Reactions to Little Fears Nightmare Edition have been overwhelmingly positive. I was (and still am) truly humbled by how warmly folks received the new edition. But, as fans will with any new version or reimagining, people had questions about some of the changes. Why Belief instead of Innocence? Why the change in tone? Why a new system?

All good questions, but folks asked one question more than any other: Why did you get rid of the Seven Kings?

I had my reasons, which I’ve stated elsewhere, and I stand by the decision to keep them out of the main book. They are of another time, another tone, another idea, another Little Fears. They didn’t have a place in the Nightmare Edition.

Despite what I’ve said over the past eighteen months since the new version’s release, it appears my whim was only a suggestion to them. I should have seen it coming. I should have known the Kings would not stay silent forever.

It seems those cantankerous tyrants have busted their way out of the old edition and into the new.

Seven kids gone missing at the same time from seven different places. Authorities believe it was the work of professionals. But you have a different idea.

Everyone’s heard the stories about them but no one’s ever seen them. Far as anyone knows, they are just a rumor. A twisted take on an already twisted reality.

Story goes there are monsters older than Closetland. Or as old as anyway. They each had their own part of it, and they ruled over their terrible lands and did terrible things. They were the meanest of the monsters.

No one knows what happened or why they went away. But the story goes, those monsters, they want to come back.

And maybe, just maybe, they have.

LITTLE FEARS NIGHTMARE EDITION
THE SEVEN KINGS.

Introducing Little Fears Nightmare Edition: The Seven Kings: a seven-part journey into the parts of Closetland you thought were closed forever.

More details at a later date.

Great Build up to this announcement 🙂
really had me guessing until the closet door slammed into place.

The sourcebook line up for the Nightmare Edition has me really exited

    Among the Missing
    The Seven Kings
    Behind the Door
    Campfire Tales Print Anthology??? 🙂
    Happy Birthday Little Fears.

What more could a fan want?
    other then a Time Machine.

    oh holy crap! :O
this is going to be twisted and awesome!
I like it! I like it a lot!
More books for my shelf of horrors! I may need to move my Furby and my copy of “Bloodsucking Pharaohs from Pittsburgh.

The lead up was pretty awesome. I had ideas but I wasn’t 100% sure I was right.

  3. Jason says:

I know you said more details would come later, so I’m just asking these questions in the hopes that it provokes the right details.

    – Book or series of Campfire Tales PDFs? The seven-part section is what makes me wonder.

    – Campaign or setting guide? Or both? The seven kids being kidnapped make me wonder.

  4. I probably won’t say anything until after Among the Missing and Happy Birthday Little Fears are out but, yes, I will answer all those questions.

I will say: This is not Book 3. The planned Book 3 is something else entire.

    @Oliver
Behind the Door is off the schedule for now, in favor of these others but I’d like to do it down the road.

Also, the original intent was to package the Campfire Tales together but since there are only three currently, that will have to wait.

Also (again), another publisher currently has the rights to do the previously announced Little Fears Nightmare Edition fiction anthology. That’s on their schedule though, not mine, so I can’t say what will see release when for that.

Frickin’ A! This sounds awesome! I never made much use of the Kings in my games, but I liked having them there as inspiration. I will definitely be picking this up.

I had completely forgot about the fiction anthology, do you know who all they’re getting to do pieces in it? Hopefully we see it hint print this year sometime.

Lots of good news coming down the pipe for LF, glad to see it!

  6. Six months later…

    @Jack of Tears
No, I don’t know who they have lined up. They’re currently putting out some other titles and I’m not sure where the Little Fears anthology fits into their plan. When things calm down a bit, I’ll ask them.
