I’m Looking for Illustrators

Over the almost eleven-year history of Little Fears, I’ve had the opportunity to work with some pretty amazing illustrators. A few of them have been gracious enough to keep working with me (looking at you, Veronica and Doug) and I will keep giving them work as long as they’ll have me.

But they get busy and bigger books require a lot of art (even if it doesn’t always look like the book has much) and, sometimes, I like to inject some new blood into the setting. Now is one of those times.

This means I’m looking for illustrators. While the Campfire Tales due out this summer are spoken for artwise, the upcoming Book 3 will require a couple dozen illustrations most likely and I have more products on the docket for 2013. So if you are an illustrator, email me! If you have a friend who’s an illustrator, tell him or her to email me! You can contact me at jason@littlefears.com. Please include links to online portfolios instead of attachments. If you don’t have a site, send no more than three attachments in mid- to lo-rez jpeg format. I’m hiring for a horror game about kids and monsters so images skewed toward that will likely stick out, but I can squint so if you don’t have any in the horror genre, send something in a style you’d like to work in.

I can’t respond to all but if I have an opening that I think fits you, I’ll definitely be in touch! And if I don’t get a hold of you for this project, I may well be in touch on another.

If you could help spread the word, I’d really appreciate it.

Inspiring Fear: ParaNorman (New Trailer!)

I first posted about the upcoming animated film ParaNorman back in November, but time has passed and a new trailer has surfaced. Check it out below:

We’re still a ways out from its August 2012 release date but I’m excited for this film. This seems right up the Little Fears Nightmare Edition alley and I think fans of the game will find a lot of material in ParaNorman. I could see my future self doing an at-home double feature of this and Monster House.

*Thanks again to Little Fears fan Charles Miller for the tip!

Not Every Child is the Same

They are different than other kids.
Some would say strange.
Some might say cursed.

But they are called the blessed.

Some are born without souls.
Others, with more than one.
Some are secretly monsters.
Others are children of faith
given powers beyond belief.

And then there are those
who wander this world
long after death.
Searching. Wanting.

Hoping.

Praying to die
or to live again.

Every child is special.

Some more than others.

Little Fears Nightmare Edition Book 3.

Fall 2012.

Fear in the New Year

Season Two of Campfire Tales wrapped up last week with the release of #6: Old Man Winter. That brings the total number of products in the Nightmare Edition line to eight. I’m pretty proud of that. LFNE went a year after its release without additional material until the first Campfire Tales episode launched in October 2010. While I wasn’t able to pump out the 12 episodes I’d initially planned, I was able to readjust for the stutter in my workflow and publish half of them in about a year’s time along with the first full-sized supplement as well.

I ramped up my writing on all fronts this past year, contributing to other game lines and a very exciting video game project, and I look to continuing the trend in 2012. As some of you might know, I’ll be dedicating a good chunk of the first quarter to my new project Streets of Bedlam but Little Fears is a long-time love of mine and I have no intention of leaving it in the cold. On the contrary, I have some big plans for the property.

Last March, I revealed some information about a multi-part supplement called The Seven Kings. I’ve also dropped some hints about Book 3 here and there. I’d still love to do both next year but won’t commit to a time frame just yet. I’ll keep you all posted.

One thing I do want to announce now is that I’ll be releasing a summer season of Campfire Tales. The three episodes will be set in the hottest months which gives me a good excuse to finally release one of my personal favorite episodes, “Camp Howling Wolf.” I look forward to the change in season and I hope you like it as well.

Other plans for Little Fears exist, some more feasible than others, but I’ll hold tight on those yet. One promise at a time.

I want to thank you all for your support, your kind words, and helping to spread the word. I hope you had a wonderful year and an even better one awaits you in 2012.

Out Now: CAMPFIRE TALES #6

The newest Campfire Tale is now available on DriveThruRPG and RPGNow:

Winter has come and with it—wait, where’s the snow? It’s almost the end of December and not a flake has fallen. While initially dismissed as simply an unseasonable warm spell, a curious admission from the neighborhood goody-two-shoes reveals there may be something nefarious at work here. Think you’re up for saving an entire season?

As with all the Campfire Tales, “Old Man Winter” is just $2 for a full standalone episode including a new monster and four new GMCs for use with this or any Little Fears Nightmare Edition episode.

I hope you enjoy this new episode! If you get a chance to play it, please let me know what you think.

Campfire Tales #6 – Out Wednesday!

Off by a week but ready nonetheless! Campfire Tales #6: Old Man Winter will be out this Wednesday. (I’ll also be revealing some news about future Campfire Tales at that time as well.)

Campfire Tales #6 Update

As seems to be the tradition with this run of Campfire Tales (sigh), I have to push back the release of the #6: Old Man Winter until next Wednesday, the 21st. I apologize sincerely for the delay. My standard promise applies: If the episode is not out by end of day next Wednesday, I’ll release it free.

The delay is due to a multiple factors (the most recent being the fact I’ve been ill) but it will be out next Wednesday! Thank you for your patience and for your support.

My New Project: STREETS OF BEDLAM

Hey Little Fears fans! Campfire Tales #6 is still slated for release next week but after that I’ll be focusing on a new RPG project for a bit, my upcoming gritty neo-noir crime setting Streets of Bedlam: A Savage World of Crime + Corruption.

I launched the Kickstarter for it last week and the response has been amazing. Early supporters of the game will get credit, can get listed as an NPC in the book, get some Kickstarter-exclusive archetypes, influence future supplements, or even immortalize themselves as major players in the world of Streets of Bedlam!

I hope you check out the new project. I’m posting previews on StreetsOfBedlam.com. Two of the game Archetypes are already up (Monster and Valkyrie). Future updates will reveal more Archetypes, new rules, and more.

If this sounds up your alley, I would really appreciate your support!
