Instructional Character Sheet!

Big thanks to brother-in-name Jason Alexander for crafting this instructional character sheet for his players at this Saturday’s MidWinter Con–and for agreeing to let me post it here on LittleFears.com.

The Little Fears community continues to delight and surprise. Thank you all so much for continuing to support and enthusiasm for Little Fears (which turns 17! this year) and for its younger sibling, Nightmare Edition, who turns 9.

Man. I’m old.

Now Available: THE WOLF PACT!

wolfpact_cover_workup_v2

It’s true! Little Fears: The Wolf Pact is now for sale! Right here! At this link!

This is a soft launch. Only the PDF is available and it’s currently only available through DriveThru. I will be working on the epub and mobi versions this week and next, as well as setting it up for POD printing through DriveThru. Then, I’ll work on getting the book up on Amazon.

But if you’ve been waiting for the book (and I hope you have been), you can grab it right now!

If I owe you a copy of the book via Kickstarter, I will get the codes out next week. (Or you can email me at JasonLBlair@gmail.com and I’ll send you a DriveThru coupon ASAP.)

I’m here! I swear!

I realize I promised a new Campfire Tales release and then dropped off the radar. I am here, I am working on it as I can. I have about 2k more words to go but those are proving to be very difficult to fit into my days. Still though, I haven’t forgotten and it will get done.

Next Week Then!

Wow. So my return to work this week was more draining than I accounted for. A month off to recover from surgery sapped all my endurance, it seems. I came home super tired every night and couldn’t muster any energy to do much of anything.

ANYWAY! I’m gonna tackle the rest of Campfire Tales #8 this weekend and get it out next week.

Apologies for the delay!

Back to the Clubhouse

Hey, everyone!

So, after a long funk accompanied by constant pain and an eventual full left hip replacement, I am back.

What does that mean? It means I have renewed energy for personal projects, after a long period away, and am committed to finishing up some long overdue efforts. I recently (just yesterday) bought a new work laptop for writing and layout. I have some files to dig out of my old, busted laptop but I am already up and running.

I’m posting this both at LittleFears.com and StreetsOfBedlam.com because this applies to both of those lines.

Little Fears Nightmare Edition

I am currently finishing up Campfire Tales #8: The House that Wasn’t There. It should see release next week. Then I’m going to get the Little Fears Middle Grade novel, The Wolf Pact, laid out and up for digital sale (and digital fulfillment on that Kickstarter).

From there, I will get print copies of The Wolf Pact set up and ordered so those of you awaiting hardcopies can finally get yours.

Then, I’m going to take a break to do up some Streets of Bedlam stuff but, when I return to Little Fears Nightmare Edition, I wanna finish Campfire Tales #9: On Paper Wings, She Flew and then run the Kickstarter to print Little Fears Nightmare Edition Book 4: Campfire Tales Collection, which will contain all nine Campfire Tales and an anthology-exclusive Campfire Tales #10: Return to Camp Howling Wolf. Have no fear though, Campfire Tales loyalists will be able to grab a PDF of the tenth adventure during the Kickstarter.

From there? Well, I’d love to write the follow-up to The Wolf Pact. But let’s finish these goals before I get too far ahead of myself.

Streets of Bedlam

My poor, abandoned Savage Worlds setting. I love Streets of Bedlam and have some work left to do. After taking that aforementioned break from LFNE, I’m gonna finish up SoB Stories #3: A Priest + a Rabbi Walk into a Bar. Then, I’m gonna layout the second supplement to see where that stands as far as page count, illustration needs, completeness. I won’t have the scratch to illustrate it just yet but it’s written. And it’s really cool.

After, I’d like to release SoB Stories #4: Canary in a Coal Mine as well as #5: The Devils from Dublin.

Of course, there’s plenty more I’d love to do with SoB but I have enough to fulfill already. I’m itching to do so, and I can’t fully express just how reenergized I am after such a long time away.

Other Stuff

I…may have some other fun things in the pipe to fill this out. More info when I can.

Inspiring Fear: Blackwood Crossing

Aside from the school-aged protagonists, I wasn’t quite sure if the newly-released game Blackwood Crossing would fulfill the qualifications for Little Fears inspiration—but not long after I wondered that, the trailer showed its potential.

I haven’t played the game yet but I fully intend to. Here’s the description from the official YouTube channel:

Blackwood Crossing is a story-driven first-person adventure game. An intriguing and emotive tale exploring the relationship between orphaned siblings, Scarlett and Finn. When their paths cross with a mysterious figure, an ordinary train ride evolves into a magical story of life, love and loss.

SPOILERS: There are animal-masked people who turn into leaf clouds? Or something? And the game has papercraft butterflies that come to life? I am so in.

Check out the trailer below. Blackwood Crossing is available now for Xbox One, Steam, and PS4.

Madness. Absolute Madness.

It’s been almost half a year since I last updated?

That’s awful. Little Fears means too much for me to leave the site languishing this long. So let’s fix that.

I’ve been busier the past year than I maybe have my entire life. The day job continues to be amazing and insane but I should have a pretty chill summer and that means it’s time to get some stuff done for this game about kids fighting monsters.

No grand promises here but I will say:

1. The Middle Grade novel, The Wolf Pact, is done. I held off self-publishing in order to shop it to some agents and publishers who might have interest. Alas, nothing materialized. So I have this completed book that I’d really like to get out there for you folks (and to fulfill some Kickstarter pledges).

2. I would very much like to write the follow-up novel to The Wolf Pact—tentatively titled Fairy Tale Ending—as well.

3. The long-promised Campfire Tales release, The House that Wasn’t There, has been sitting almost-done since September of 2015. I’d like to finish and polish that up for sale.

Alright, I think that’s enough for now.

Oh! And I have ordered a whole bunch of PG-13 horror films so expect some Inspiring Fear posts as well. Including one that will up later this week!

Inspiring Fear: Halloween Spookies

Happy Halloween, everybody! With work and travel, I didn’t have time to put together a proper Halloweek this year but I didn’t want the holiday to pass without at least something.

Thanks, Dread Central, for coming to the rescue! Check out the following link for information on a family-friendly anthology called Halloween Spookies.

Update on The Wolf Pact

wolfpact_cover_workup_v2

I sent The Wolf Pact out to alpha readers on the 11th and the response has been amazing! I got some very good notes to help strengthen the story and LOTS of anecdotes that readers from 7 to 12 LOVE the book! It’s great to get feedback from peers on story structure, character development, and plot consistency but hearing that my target audience really likes the story of Nate and Jennifer makes my heart sing.

On top of that, the author of one of my favorite Middle Grade series ever has agreed to read the book for a potential blurb! Exciting times!

I am currently revising the book based on alpha feedback. Then I’ll start a head-down copyedit pass to fix up typos, grammatical errors, etc. Then it’s layout and proofing and then digital release!

I’ve decided to go ahead with a Kickstarter so folks who missed the book the first time around (or who just want the novel and not the RPG) can pick it up—though the focus of the Kickstarter will be funding the follow-up, Faery Tale Ending, which centers on Jennifer and her quest to [REDACTED].

Inspiring Fear: A Monster Calls

I’m kinda stunned by how much I love this.

Most of the kids-plus-monsters movies I post about have the two sides opposing each other. That is, after all, the heart of Little Fears: kids fighting monsters. But the below film, A Monster Calls, is all about a boy who has a monster on his side. I won’t say anything more other than to implore you to watch the trailer below.

It’s based on Patrick Ness’s book of the same name. I plan to pick this one up immediately.

For you fans of Monsters and Other Childish Things, this fits so very well there too.
